Edinburgh Hen Weekend The Royal Yacht Britannia Tour
See how the Queen lives on her Ex Private Yacht
The Royal Yacht Britannia Tour in Edinburgh
The Royal Yacht Britannia is one of the world's most famous ships and served the Royal family for over 40 years. Officially launched at John Browns shipyard in 1953. This yacht has sailed over 1 million miles and is full of history and heritage having taken 968 trips round the world from the remotest regions of the South Seas to the deepest divides of Antarctica. The Queen took great pride in choosing colours for the decor and furniture right down to deciding on the colour of the yacht, even opting for the gold ring that circles the vessel. None of the family have returned to the yacht as it holds many happy and few sad memories.
At the beginning of January 1997, Britannia set sail from Portsmouth to Hong Kong on her last and longest voyage.
After many months discussion it was decided that Edinburgh would be her final berth and preparations were made.

Useful Tip
The tour lasts about 1.5 to 2 hours and it is best to take your time as there is lots of history on this ship and it would be a shame to miss a thing.
Don't miss the dining room as it is marvelous and can hold up to 100 diners. If this room could speak what wonderful stories it would tell.
It is said that at one dinner an unfortunate waiter had some wind as he bent to pick up a spoon. The Queen apologised to the president on her left. He replied "Thats okay Mam, I thought it was the waiter".
The last member of the public to see The Queens bedroom this close was arrested but you will be able to say you have had the privilege see it.
